A Puritan Fable
The Great Switch©
God was in his throne. Who comes in but the Angel of Light and he requests the Ancient of the Days to let him go to the earth for a season so His Church may be well founded in the ways of the Highest.
God queried thus, “ The Church have my Word and it is theirs to grow in knowledge. Isn’t it?” The angel Urim was certain it was the case. He still asked permission and the Lord God in the end let him go. “ Blessed be the poor in Spirit. May they prosper in the knowledge of the Word.”
Urim’s arrival was an occasion for a great revival in the Church. One saw visions in the midst of divine service and another spoke in tongues while they were interceding for the unsaved. The Church certainly was in some controversy or other over these strange happenings. Pastor Muckamuck was sure it was the result of living among the ungodly people that gave rise to division. “ Had we been thinking alike without learning in part from the world, and in part from the scriptures, we would have been like Zion and New Jerusalem.” It was Urim in the Pastor speaking. So many found the idea excellent. Those who agreed with Muckamuck seperated themselves from their families and they sailed for an island not inhabited.
At last they found such a place where the godly people set up their church and their colony. God was their foundation and everything they did they vowed was on the express will of the Highest. Thus they lived being certain they were the Church of God. Outside was the misguided lot, Church of the Damned. How they prayed for the ungodly and for their salvation.
God after a season sent his Archangel Michael to speak to Urim. He came to Pastor Muckamuck and Urim seeing the archangel immediately took him aside, “What message has the Lord God for me?” Michael moved apart and said,” I have a message for Urim. I know you as Thumim!”
Thumim was the Angel of Discord, of Destruction. In separating the Word out of His intent and out of its context, the Angel had made the Church more unto beasts!
